Software Licensing
From Docunext Technology Wiki
Software is a written work and therefore is subject to United States and international copyright law protections. As such there are many ways in which software can be licensed from one party to another. There are two large categories of software licenses: proprietary and open source. Docunext is focused primarily on open source software, so that's what will be covered on this page.
Copyright
In the United States, copyright law covers tangible works of specific media for a specific period of time, sometimes over one hundred years.
Copyright is automatically granted to the creator upon creation of their works, but creators can also register their copyright with the US Copyright office.
Licenses
Licenses are granted by a copyright holder to another party providing limited rights to copy, modify, and/or distribute creative works.
