FreeBSD 8 is coming right along... as of August 2009, the third beta has been made available. A note about freebsd 8
FreeBSD 7
The current version of FreeBSD as of April 2008 is Version 7. It is reportedly way faster than previous versions. Version 7 includes some nifty stuff like experimental support for the ZFS file system.
