jQuery Plugin: Javascript CookieJar by JDempster

This is pretty cool:

I found it when looking for a way to persist javascript settings - like the state of a table after being sorted to a user’s preference.

While at jdempster.com I also found out about http://www.emacsblog.org/ and the awesome genshi plugin. I just added it to Docunext plugin list and tried it out, not bad at all!

Actually this is pretty awesome too:

Ever try to have text in an interactive element cause the interactive to get funny on you? This can help.

Upgrading one of my Laptops to Ubuntu Hardy Heron from Gutsy Gibbons

I just upgraded one of my laptops to Hardy Heron from Gutsy - the upgrade process went well and everything it working nicely. I’m still using Debian on my Macbook but I’m glad to have Hardy to try out as well.

My Practices with OpenVZ

Maybe these practices will be of value to others… so when I setup a machine, I usually leave the host in a very simple state. I’d like to stick with etch but as it turns out I ended up using lenny for a most of my openvz setups.

Also, I usually have one machine which resembles the concept of “sid” - the kid who breaks toys. The one I use the most I call “Bart”, yes this is on the Simpsons family machine. Along those lines, “Lisa” is a communications system, hosting email services, DNS, and jabber.

Homer is the web server and I haven’t setup Marge or Maggie yet.

This way I can have several different environments for different reasons.

Exciting Stuff in the Debian, Ubuntu and Apache Pipelines

I’m getting excited about some new features in Apache and packages in the Debian pipelines:

  • mod_dbd w/ MySQL support
  • mod_rewrite w/ SQL support - probably not for awhile though
  • mod_gnutls - this may be closer than I thought
  • iceweasel 3 - yay!

Kudos to MadBlogger Pierre for the ongoing RC-Bug-A-Day!

Oooh - check this out too: http://www.earobinson.org/2008/03/06/lets-let-apt-url-install-epositories/ - might be cool to pair that with dpkg-www for some interesting web-based management and monitoring.
