A Few Hours with Ruby

August 2nd, 2009

I've spent the last few hours doing some general scripting with Ruby and I have to say I am very feeling very good about this language.

Its taken me way too long for me to get my hands dirty with it, but finally I'm getting places.

I've heard so many people say things like "this script only has x amount of lines and does all this!"

That type of statement is hard for me to understand unless I'm able to experience it myself, and tonight, I was able to do so. I don't think that my particular instance exemplifies this light bulb, "aha" moment, very well, but here's what I came up with while writing a script to lookup some rbl dns servers, to reverse an ip address:

cmds = cmda.reverse().join(".")
